It was the day I finally finished that I will not forget. The day I completed the Captain Underpants series changed my life in a way one wouldn’t think it could do. Some know it was a funny book, but it definitely was much more than just a funny book to me.
I hated school and I hated school with passion. I disliked everything about it; reading especially. It wasn’t that I was bad at reading; I was actually very good, but it was just always such a tedious task. I never got the point of books when one could just play video games, but my third grade teacher changed my thoughts. She introduced and recommended the Captain Underpants first book to me and once I read the first one, I fell in love with reading. My whole idea of school changed from then on. I found purpose in reading, found pleasure in it, and felt myself getting a bit smarter.
Mrs. Tomasides was the teacher who changed my whole perspective on reading. WIthout her, I wouldn’t have ever enjoyed reading nor got the benefits from it. She did not even know what she did at the time, and still does not know but what she did has had a lasting impact on me.
It was truly one of the best days of my life when I completed the whole series. I felt so accomplished and very determined to keep reading. I would go to the library to find better series and although I never did, some were very good. I learned so much from reading over the years and have received crucial knowledge to succeed in life, but I would’ve had that same lousy third grade mindset if it was not for Mrs. Tomasides.
